USB standard has both wired and wireless versions but only wired version has USB ports and cables. First Universal Serial Bus (version 1.0) was commercially released in the month of January 1996. This industry standard was soon adopted by other large companies such as Intel, Compaq, Microsoft etc.

Where are USB ports located?
Almost all modern computers have at least one USB port, but here I have told about some such typical locations where you can locate these USB ports in a computer.

A desktop computer often has two to four ports on the front and two to eight ports on the back.

A laptop computer has one to four ports on its sides.

These USB interfaces were first developed in the mid-1990s and were standardized by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF). According to these standards, there are two main types of connectors which are A-type and B-type. These USB connectors are purposely designed to connect properly. Connecting them incorrectly is impossible in a way. Therefore, for ease of users, USB icon is imprinted on the top side of the plug, which can be easily visible visually to anyone. With this USB standards it already specifies which type of extension cable the connector will fit on.

There are now many versions of USB connectors that vary according to their own DTRs, for example USB 1.0 with DTR of 1.5 Mbps and 12 Mbps, USB 2.0 with DTR of 480 Mbps, and USB 3.0, or SuperSpeed, which has a DTR of 5 Gbps.

Many prior interfaces, such as serial and parallel ports, for individual power chargers portable devices using the USB interface. USB connectors are now being used in such devices as network adapters and portable media players, like video game consoles and in smartphones.
